Due to sterility problems, almost 3 million units of Complete MoisturePLUS contact lens solution were recalled. Advanced Medical Optics discovered bacterial contamination in three lots manufactured in China. Ralstonia bacteria, which poses a possible eye risk, was found in the solution. Though the company has not received any adverse event reports in the U.S. related to the recalled lots of solution, there have been some adverse events reported in China and Japan. As a result of the contamination, Advanced Medical Optics has closed the China manufacturing plant for cleaning. Several months ago, Bausch and Lomb recalled its ReNu with Moisture Loc solution after it was linked to keratitis fungal eye infections.
