Fresh Spinach Recalled Due to Salmonella

Metz Fresh LLC has recalled its fresh bagged spinach after a positive test for salmonella. The spinach involved in this recall have been distributed in both retail and food service packages throughout 48 states and Canada. There have been no reports of illness linked to this spinach, but a sample from the product line tested positive for salmonella and Metz, a California company, recalled all of the spinach packed that day. Salmonella can cause abdominal pain, fever, vomiting, diarrhea and dehydration. The recent spinach recall comes almost a year after fresh spinach was recalled due to E. coli contamination. Last year's E. coli spinach outbreak killed three people and sickened more than 200. It was traced to Natural Selections, another California company, and resulted in increased inspections by California health officials.
