Bausch & Lomb has recently voluntarily suspended shipment of its contact lens solution in the U.S. This action came after the company's ReNu with MoistureLoc contact solution, as well as its generic solution, have been linked to a significant number of fungal eye infections that are being investigated by the Centers for Disease Control.

In February of this year Baush & Lomb stopped its sale of ReNu in Singapore and Hong Kong after increasing reports of fungal eye infections in those areas. The infection is called Fusarium keratitis and can cause temporary blindness. Treatment for the infection can last 2 to 3 months. If left untreated, the infection can scar the cornea, possibly requiring a cornea transplant. Symptoms of infection include increased light sensitivity, discharge from the eye, blurred vision or eye pain or tearing. Contact lens users experiencing such symptoms should immediately stop wearing the lenses and contact a doctor. Sheller, Ludwig & Badey is currently investigating claims of injury caused by ReNu with MoistureLoc contact lens solution. For further information, contact 800-883-2299.
